Walnut Clock with Bark left on

I recently acquired some walnut wood from my father in law.  I decided it would be fun to make a wall clock out of one of the pieces.  I bought a clock to get the motor and hands then I route the back to fit the motor and battery.  Then I routed at the 12, 3, 6, & 9 a spot to inlay a piece of oak.  I sand the face and then applied a coat of poly to the wood and bark.  This was a fun and quick project to work on in an afternoon.

Custom 18 inch Cheese Clock

While making the cutting boards below, I was contacted to make a cheese clock.  You ask what is a cheese clock it is actually a way that cheese is organized on a board and paired with wines.  Via my wife, one of her contacts reached out and wanted to see if I could make a custom cheese clock for him.  This is really my first true experiences with social media creating a connection between people that do not know each other.

This cheese clock is made the following:

Wood on the Clock
6 to 9 Maple
9 to 12 Oak
12 to 3 Cherry
3 to 6 Walnut
Center square Mahogany
I laminated (glued) all of the wood together by species and then joined them all together.  After that I drew an 18 inch circle and used a band saw to cut the board to shape and then sanded it to final size.  I used my angle grinder to smooth out the board, then belt sand and then a finish sanding.  This board was finished with General Finishes Salad Bowl Non-Toxic finish.

Cutting board Roots

This past Christmas i started making very simple cutting boards to give as gifts to family and friends.  These where made out of Oak with popular inlays on the sides or random scraps i had run down the middle.

After creating these I had purchased some wood from Rockler.com and started to make more unique boards, which in turn started me down a path to creating and selling my woodworking projects.  I post the pictures below on my face book page and got a great response.  So then I created a face book page for just my woodworking.  Then I created this blog to allow me to put different information out there about my hobby.

If you see anything you like and want to place a custom order please contact me a neiljoyce@gmail.com

Privacy Screen and trash can screen

Over thanksgiving weekend in 2010, I spent time at my mom house building a privacy screen and trash can screen with my mom and her finance Tim Long help.  We used basic materials that you could find at Home Depot or Lowes.  The lattice we used was the tight weave pattern 4X8 sheets.

Just another nice day outside doing something that I love to do.  If someone that means alot to me.

Getting Started Post for my Woodworking Blog

I have to give credit to my brother for getting me started on this.  He created a blog call the fish whisper to share all of his fishing stories.  Since he decided to share his hobby I decided to do the same.

Below you will see a few of the items that I have created from a woodworking perspective.  I have started to take custom orders from friends, that has allowed me to start to create a little buzz about my projects.

Below are the first real projects I created with my brother as a gift for our Mom at Christmas.  Thanks bro for your help creating these chairs for mom.

Next are some project that I created for my son Connor who is 3.5 as of this post.  I really enjoy building stuff with my hands, and being able to say they are handmade and made with love.

More to come with other project that I have created.
